Thorn looks like it was forged in the fires of mount doom.

Destiny thorn vs hawkmoon. In 3s hawkmoon easily with rangefinder and fullbore. Hawkmoon wins seriously, to the point that i feel gipped for working towards thorn. Probably the most highly requested topic i get:

If your a shotty player, stick with ace or thorn. Rangefinder, moving target, and snapshot sights all jump out as really great. Maybe once i level it up more, it will be better.

I use mnk so tlw is useless compared to the other two. If your on controller and like to snipe, tlw is great. Hawkmoon looks like someone wanted to turn their desert eagle into a revolver.

Well, the good news is that they're all good. According to light.gg, hawkmoon can roll with a pretty massive variety of great perks. For destiny 2 on the playstation 4, a gamefaqs message board topic titled casual pvp:

I just remember with hawk, as soon as i got it, i was demolishing everything in front of me. But ace is definitely the better choice for 6v6. Its weird to say that, but the pistol is that op.

Hawkmoon is easily the best tlw second it's harder to use than thorn so people tend to hate it, and thorn.thorn is the easiest to use but honestly anyone with skill can out gun it. However, i still love the hawkmoon with its pure high damage output for crits. The 2 shot kill is over stated and rarely actually comes into play as it only works against people running minimum armour and it's quicker to just finish them off with a third shot anyway.

Which one should you use? If you're running strikes i would go with hawkmoon cause it can take down those bosses a little bit quicker, but thorn will be. Its like a handheld ice breaker

Thorn will be strong for sure, but maybe limited to closer engagements by its small range stat (54). Hawkmoon is the better of the two, but thorn is about 95% as good imo. The first hawkmoon you get is actually missing a perk.

Last word, which is the best? If playback doesn't begin shortly, try.
